TOPIC

Elsie Wiebe of MCC and Karen McAndless-Davis introduced us in a personal way to the “When Love Hurts” women’s abuse programme and support group with the stories of four women from the support network who shared private details of their lives, how abuse fell into their lives, and their road to recovery. Particularly striking was the scripture from Psalm 55 ( “My companion laid hands on a friend and violated a covenant with me with speech smoother than butter, but with a heart set on war; with words that were softer than oil, but in fact were drawn swords”) to both the listeners and to the storytellers. It was a moving service and a stimulating discussion time afterward, and is a “must borrow” from the library. No summary can do justice to the stories, and none will be provided. [AP]
