At our Peace Sunday service, Andre reminded us of the many scripture verses that speak to the peace theme, Eric led our singing of peace songs and Evan's meditation focussed on various aspects of peace. Evan noted that Peace Sunday was one of the most difficult Sundays of the year, based on the pacific idealism with which many of us were raised which stands in stark contrast to the reality of continued violence in our world. Jesus was involved with a lot of conflict. While prayers for peace usually focus on wars and ethnic conflicts far away, Evan reminded us of our responsibility to work for peace in our neighbourhoods, and within our families. "Give us the grace to overlook petty annoyances and to build on all that is positive in our relationship, that we may love them as ourselves, with genuine forbearance and kindness." (HN)
